| Weaving has been part of my life for thirty years. I make both functional and non-functional baskets using various materials; reed primarily, but I also work with white oak, ash, and hickory. The historical significance of basketry attracted me initially and then the possibility for creative expression in this medium became evident. I like to explore the possibilities of incorporating different materials, such as metals or other natural elements, into my baskets. Interpreting the basket as a vessel and container, I try to preserve some element of the traditional basketweaver’s intent in my finished piece while adding a non-traditional material or altering the shape to some degree. |
